TSURIGASAKI-BEACH-2020 Olympic Games

Located about 100 kilometres from Tokyo is Chiba province, which will host the surfing events of the 2020 Olympic Games. So indeed, no wave pool planned for this first year!

The dates of July 24 to August 9, 2020 have therefore been defined to ensure favourable weather conditions for the competition. But the organizers reserve the right to choose the most suitable days!

Throughout the Olympic Games, the beach will host many events, food stands, yoga classes….

The National Olympic Committee has decided to select a maximum of 2 athletes per gender to participate in the very first Olympic surfing competition. 40 competitors, 20 women and 20 men, representing a maximum of 2 surfers per National Olympic Committee, will therefore be present on the second largest beach in the country, bordered by the Pacific Ocean.

Athletes may be eligible for Olympic qualification if they have participated in qualifying competitions :

– The 2019 World Surf League Championship Tour (CT) 2019
– The ISA World Surfing Games of 2019 and 2020
– The 2019 Pan-American Games
– World Surf League Qualifying Series (QS) 2019

At the end of the 2019 season, the 10 eligible men and 8 eligible women will be qualified to represent their countries on the Japanese spot.
